Spotted this idea on the New York Times website. Give it a try. Books are so powerful.

In no particular order. Most books came to me by chance and I had no idea they would be so important to my life.

  1. Emotional Alchemy by Tara Bennett-Goleman
  2. Getting Things Done & Ready For Anything by David Allen
  3. Buddha by Deepak Chopra
  4. Party of One: A Loner’s Manifesto by Anneli S. Rufus (though Celebrating Time Alone by Lionel L. Fisher struck me with a more positive note; same ideas though)
  5. The Freedom Manifesto by Tom Hodgkinson
  6. Wherever You Go, There You Are by Jon Kabat
  7. Biographies of Frank Lloyd Wright and Georgia O’Keeffe
  8. On The Road by Jack Kerouac
  9. The Single Girl’s Manifesta: Living in a Stupendously Superior Single State of Mind by Jerusha Stewart
  10. Insecure At Last: A Political Memoir by Eve Ensler

The biographies were school projects when I was very young, but I was so fascinated by their lives for some reason. Maybe it was because they both were from Wisconsin and I saw a lot of their work around me. But those biographies have kept me in touch with my concept of creative vocations for as long as I can remember.

Runners up: The Alchemist by Paulo Cahelo, The Power of Less by Leo Babauta, The Happiness Project by Gretchen Rubin, True Notebooks by Mark Salzman and soo many more. Books help shape my life!
